At the start of the new tech year, Girls in Tech Armenia kicked off 2018 with the first event of a new series of Geek Girls’ Dinners in Armenia. About 50 girls and women involved in tech participated in the first ever Geek Girls’ Dinner on January 7 at Eat & Fit healthy food cafe in Yerevan, Armenia. The dinner was accompanied by a selection of wines provided by the first and only, “wine only” bar, shop and club in Yerevan – In Vino.

Big social dinners are very common in the tech community of Silicon Valley, where women have the opportunity to meet and share ideas, engage with their peers, and to network over dinner. Taking inspiration from one of the world’s leading tech hubs, Girls in Tech Armenia hopes to bring a new social aspect to the Armenian tech community.

To open a discussion about new trends in tech, 4 female speakers were invited to reflect on their experiences and to share more insights on work habits, motivation, tech journalism, and the world of aviation. The speakers were Astghik Piliposyan- UI engineer and UX enthusiast, Ani Meruzhan Margaryan-talent specialist at Joomag and founder of Loft HR club, tech journalist of Narine Daneghyan, and Tatevik Revazyan- director of global partnerships at FLYR Inc.

“These kinds of dinner gatherings are a great opportunity not only for networking, but also for starting new initiatives and building partnerships. Moreover, these dinners reinforce Girls in Tech Armenia’s mission, which is to empower and engage more girls and women in tech, leadership and entrepreneurship,” says Seda Papoyan, managing director of Girls in Tech Armenia.

The first Geek Girls’ Dinner was a success. We are excited to continue and turn the initiative into a series of monthly dinners and look forward to engage in more productive conversations over STEM fields.
